Colin Powell (b. April 5, 1937) was the 65th Secretary of State of the United States, and the first African American appointed to the post. He served under President George W. Bush from 2001 until 2004 when he resigned over American foreign policy in Iraq. Powell was a career military man, rising through the ranks to become a four star general. In 1989, he was named Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff by President George H.W. Bush and led American forces during the first Gulf War. Powell and his wife Alma live in this home in McLean, Virginia.
